How to use Retinol the RIGHT way for anti aging

Retinol is the most talked about active skincare ingredient on the market today, and as Dr. Karam explains here, that’s for good reason! Retinol is a skincare superhero, addressing numerous skin aging issues including fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and so much more! There is a lot of confusion about how to actually use Retinol, though, and how to use it properly in order to get the most anti-aging benefits. The truth about Retinol is that it is an incredibly powerful skincare agent, and should be used knowledgeably. Because Retinol is so powerful, it can cause skin to react with inflammation and redness when you first start using it. While these symptoms might seem scary, they are the result of your skin acclimating to the product. After your skin adjusts to you using the product consistently, though, you won’t experience the same sensitivity. The key to having Retinol work for you, though, is that you use it consistently throughout the week so that your skin receives the most benefit.

  1. Hello Dr. Karam,
    Thank you for your video.

I’m 65, with reasonably well kept Scandinavian type skin, living in Denmark.
In connection with weight loss, I’ve purchased a recommended retinol body creme from IHerb, USA to help my skin a little in the process.
(Postponing the face because of old acne scar laser at the moment).

In your video you strongly advise against Retinol and Vitamin C cream at the same time.
    I didn’t know about this.

This IHerb product is promoted as having both Retinol, Vitamin C…AND Vitamin E.. and appears to be sound and popular over the counter product with very little ther unnessecary artificial content.
Should I just throw it out?

I haven’t received the cream yet, so I don’t know the actual amount of each ingredient pr. 100 ml.
    (And cannot attach photo here).

    Can you help?
    Thank you in advance!
    J. Jensen, DK

  2. use it around your eyes then you will feel the unimaginable dryness and burn lasts days! I read somewhere, it can be permanent…. don’t listen everyone, be careful with retinol near eyes…

  3. Every plastic surgeon should be advising their patients about the importance of Retin A /Retinol. Skin care is vitally important before and after facial rejuvenation. It seems some doctors would rather see more aging to obtain more surgical opportunuties! Thank you for this helpful guide about using these type products more successfully.
